Phil Langley points out that ‘the app encodes... ‘best practice’ design guidance from across the manufacturing and systemisation industry and will be made freely available and open source.’.

One of the most important things about PRiSM is the research that sits behind it, achieved through the analysis of literally thousands of London apartments.PRiSM benefits from substantial research into a broad cross-section of residential developments, various typologies, areas and spaces within apartments.

We wanted to understand just how much standardisation was actually taking place. We also wanted to map out all of the different typologies it was possible to build, in order to create a common language with which to talk about housing.Because of the density requirements of inner-city London sites, we initially focused on central corridor apartment buildings within PRiSM.

We started with typologies which were most commonly in use and would therefore provide the biggest benefit. However, we built PRiSM so that it could be expanded to include additional housing typologies and geographies in future, if we were to open the app up for further adoption in suburban or rural settings.

In this sense, PRiSM represents a truly open-ended workflow, with the potential for continual expansion and development.. Driving Value with PRiSM: Quality and Affordability in Residential Architecture.

The initial 2019 launch of PRiSM was well attended by a cross-section of people from the industry. As part of this role Adam was involved in the design and construction of the EcoCanopy modular school system..

Following this experience Adam became involved in the design of larger scale development projects incorporating BIM and DfMA techniques, initially working on the 2012 Athletes’ Village and East Village projects, followed by the design and implementation of a standardised “chassis” solution for a mixed-use residential development. Some of the concepts developed at this time have contributed to Bryden Wood’s Platform approach to DfMA..

Recently Adam became involved as a project leader in the development of early stage design concepts and business case alignment for the Front End Factory initiative with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), utilising advanced digital tools and off-site manufactured components for GSK’s portfolio of global capital projects. This work was key to the development of Bryden Wood’s Chip Thinking™ approach.. Adam is also building contacts and exploring DfMA opportunities in Asia/Pacific.
